Sweeping chimneys in Didsbury
Didsbury has some of the best chimney work in south Manchester, and it is fifteen minutes from us in Wythenshawe. The large Victorian and Edwardian villas along Palatine Road, Wilmslow Road and the streets running down towards Fletcher Moss were built with four, five or six flues to a stack, most of them unlined, and a good number of those chimneys are still doing the job they were built for.
Houses that size almost always have fireplaces in rooms nobody lights. Those flues still need checking — an unused chimney is exactly where nests, loose debris and damp problems sit unnoticed, and in a shared stack a problem on one flue can affect the one next to it.
West Didsbury and the roads towards Withington bring more terraced and semi-detached property, much of it renovated in the last twenty years with fireplaces reinstated or woodburners fitted. Whether that flue was lined at the time makes a real difference to how often we need to see you.
