Wilmslow is one of our closest Cheshire areas — twenty minutes or so from us in Wythenshawe — and it gives us a broader range of work than most towns on our patch.
The large houses out towards Fulshaw Park, Lindow and the Bollin valley are the ones that take the longest. Substantial Victorian and Edwardian property, often with four or five flues to a stack, and a good number of them unlined. In houses like these there are usually fireplaces in rooms that never get lit, and those flues still need checking — an unused chimney is where nests, debris and damp problems tend to sit unnoticed.
Closer in, around the town centre and out through Handforth, the housing is more mixed: interwar and post-war semis, terraces, and newer estate property. A lot of these have had woodburners fitted in the past fifteen years or so, and a good proportion went into existing masonry chimneys. Whether that flue was lined at the time makes a real difference to how often we need to see you.
