We are based in Wythenshawe, which puts most of south Manchester within twenty minutes of us. That matters more than it sounds — it means we can usually offer a choice of times rather than whatever is left in the week, and it means a follow-up visit is not a half-day round trip.
Greater Manchester’s chimneys divide fairly neatly by era. The Victorian and Edwardian stock through Didsbury, Chorlton and the Heatons has tall stacks carrying several unlined flues, often with fireplaces in rooms nobody lights any more. The interwar semis that fill Timperley, Sale, Cheadle and much of Stockport have simpler single flues — but a great many were blocked off during the central heating years and have since been opened back up.
That reopening is the single most common job we get called to across the whole county. A flue that has been out of service for thirty or forty years needs sweeping and a draw test before it is lit, not after the room fills with smoke.
