Sweeping chimneys in Salford
Salford covers more ground and more kinds of housing than almost anywhere else we work, and the chimneys vary accordingly.
The terraced streets through Ordsall, Weaste and Pendleton were built for coal — narrow flues, party-wall stacks, and a great many chimneys that were swept as routine for generations and then left alone for decades once gas central heating arrived. Bringing one of those back into service is the job we get called to most often here.
Around Broughton and Higher Broughton the picture changes entirely. Substantial Victorian villas with tall stacks carrying four or five flues, most of them unlined, and usually at least one fireplace in a room nobody lights. Those unused flues still need checking — they are where nests and debris sit unnoticed.
