Sweeping chimneys in Denton
Denton grew on hat-making, and the housing that went up around the works is still the bulk of what we sweep here — solid Victorian and Edwardian terraces built for coal, with narrow flues and stacks shared along the row.
Around them are the interwar and post-war semis through Haughton Green and Audenshaw, with simpler single flues, and a fair number of those were blocked off once gas central heating arrived.
The pattern is familiar: a fireplace that has been boarded over for forty years gets opened back up during a renovation, or a log burner goes into the old opening. Either way that flue needs sweeping and a draw test before it is lit, not after the room fills with smoke.
